Now Yahoo! Launched Web Analytics Beta IndexTools.

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

Finally Yahoo made it!, in a very decent way the first step towards something bigger. On October 8th Yahoo has announced the final integration step of Index tools into Yahoo! and roll out Yahoo Web Analytics (beta) on a limited basis beginning this week. According to Jitendra Kavathekar, Yahoo’s Web Analytics VP, the service has already been made available to select Yahoo advertisers and third-party application developers.
The next “big deployment,” Kavathekar says, will be for Yahoo’s 13,000 e-commerce customers hosting under the Yahoo Small Business service. Beyond that, Yahoo Web Analytics will continue to roll out for the rest of this year and into 2009.Yahoo’s analytics service is a result of the company’s purchase of IndexTools earlier this year. Shortly after the purchase, Yahoo’s Dennis Mortensen announced the company’s plans to make Yahoo Web Analytics free.In its FAQ about the new analytics service, Yahoo suggests three reasons why its product is better than the competition:
Real-time Data: “While some analytics products provide data 24-48 hours after collection, Yahoo! Web Analytics reflects data within minutes of collection.”
Raw Data: “While some products store aggregated data, which restricts the usefulness of the data to pre-created or canned reports, Yahoo! Web Analytics stores data in non-aggregated raw form.”
Ease-of-Use and FlexibilityYahoo offers a sign-up form for future updates on the Yahoo Web Analytics (beta) home page.

Solve the Duplicate content issues in WordPress Blog

Adding ‘noindex, follow’ tags

What can you do to avoid this problem? You can tell the search engines what URL to index by using ‘noindex, follow’ meta tag, robots.txt exclusions or 301 redirects. Let’s say you want Google to index your front page, posts, single pages and category pages and forbid the spiders from crawling the content of archives, feeds and ‘next entries’ pages - page/2, /3, … To do this you have to add to your header.php the following code:

Code Is :
if((is_home() && ($paged < name="robots" content="index,follow">‘;
} else {
echo ‘< name="robots" content="noindex,follow">‘;}

For those not familiar with editing templates in WordPress: in your dashboard click Presentation menu item and after the new page is opened – click Theme Editor. In the Theme Editor choose ‘header.php’ and then paste the above code into the editor form. This code has to be inserted anywhere between head tags .

Here the tag is added to the home page but not the ‘next entries’ page (is_home() and ($paged<2)), to your posts (is_single()); to solo pages, like ‘About me’, if you created any (is_page()); and to category pages (is_category()). If you don’t want your categories to be indexed just delete || is_category(). All the other pages will get . They will not be indexed, but this will not prevent crawlers from following their outgoing links.

Adding unique meta description

For this purpose I use Head Meta Description plugin. This plugin can be configured to use an excerpt of your post as a meta description – this is especially useful if you have to add this tag to hundreds of existing pages. Or you can add your own manually as a custom field, which is my personal preference.

Using more tag

By using this tag you tell WordPress to display only the first few lines of your post. This greatly reduces the similarity of home page and your articles. If you have too many existing posts to edit, you can use an ‘excerpt’ plugin, such as this one from Semiologic

Redirect to a canonical URL

You should edit your .htaccess file to perform 301 redirects. Non-www addresses like yoursite.com should be redirected to www.yoursite.com. URL without trailing slashes like www.yoursite.com/category should be rewritten to include it: www.yoursite.com/category/ This can be done by inserting the following code into your .htaccess file:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.yoursite\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.yoursite.com/$1 [R,L]
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

For more details read this: the process or rewriting the URL layout.

Preventing spiders from crawling feeds and auxiliary pages

For this purpose you should edit your robots.txt file by inserting the following code

User-agent: *
Disallow: /wp-
Disallow: /search
Disallow: /feed
Disallow: /comments/feed
Disallow: /feed/$
Disallow: /*/feed/$
Disallow: /*/feed/rss/$
Disallow: /*/trackback/$
Disallow: /*/*/feed/$
Disallow: /*/*/feed/rss/$
Disallow: /*/*/trackback/$
Disallow: /*/*/*/feed/$
Disallow: /*/*/*/feed/rss/$
Disallow: /*/*/*/trackback/$

Search Engine Optimization and SEO Tips

Monday, August 11, 2008

Search Engine Optimization Tips or we can say like SEO Tips - Today Amousia SEO | SEM | SMO | Web Marketing Tips Blog is going to give some tips to achieve your business goals through "keywords" or "key phrase" and other Basic SEO activities.

Please bear in mind that achieving success through search engine optimization is highly dependent on a wide range of Universal SEO factors and any ethical Internet marketing consultant will tell you that up front. Some rules will apply to your website and some will not. But even when everything is done correctly, ranking well doesn't happen overnight as some sites lead you to believe.

It takes time but if you're willing to be patient, search engine optimization will help you and your business achieve its goals.

Additional Search Engine Optimization Tips

1. Know Your Target Audience – Before any code or content is written for the site, think about your target audience and keep them in mind at every stage of site development. Consider age, gender, and especially, think about the things that will make your target audience want to visit your site often.

2. Build a Clean, User-Friendly Site – Web users have very short attention spans and the decision to linger at your site or clíck the Back button is made in a few seconds. Build a site that's easy on the eyes and structure it so that information can be found quickly and easily. Use bulleted lists, subheads, bold important text but don't overdo it, and use clean, intuitive page layouts. Avoid building pages with frames, .PDF's, and Flash. By the time these pages have loaded, your viewer is probably long gone.

3. Well-Written Content – Make sure the content on your site is well-written, gets right to the point, and doesn't insult the intelligence of your readers with wild claims and hyperbole. Good content encourages readers to explore the other pages of your site and creates high-quality inbound links.

4. Let Keywords and Keyphrases Occur Naturally – Both search engines and readers alike will notice obvious keyword stuffing immediately and your credibility will suffer. Let the words and phrases that you want to optimize occur naturally in the content without overdoing it.

5. Use Short, Relevant URLs – Give your page URLs good file names which include the keywords optimized for that page and definitely avoid query strings. Try to limit page titles to relevant words separated by hyphens. For example, instead of ".com/seo" try ".com/search-engine-optimization-tips" or ".com/seo-tips. "

6. Good Meta Descriptions – Keep meta descriptions between 200-250 characters and make them relevant to the page and informative. Good meta descriptions raise confidence that the page will contain the information that web users seek therefore making it more selectable.

7. Quality Inbound and Outbound Links – The quality of your inbound and outbound links far outweigh quantity for SEO purposes. Link farming is frowned upon by search engines and readers alike. If someone clicks on an outbound link from your site, make sure that it takes them somewhere interesting and informative or they're not likely to clíck on another.

8. Limit Keywords and Keyphrases – Feature two or three optimized keywords and phrases on each page and again, make them occur naturally in the content. If you want to rank well for other terms, simply build other pages optimized for those terms.

9. Update the Content Regularly – Add new content to your site on a regular basis. It gives your site visitors something new to read and the search engines will be inclined to index your site more frequently.

10. Avoid Unethical SEO Methods – Link farming, duplicated content, cloaking, spamdexing, and other attempts to fool search engine crawlers will get your site penalized and buried where no one can find it. Search engine algorithms are increasingly sophisticated and Black Hat SEO methods will destroy any possibility for ranking well.

These are just a few search engine optimization tips for you to consider that will help your site rank well and there are many, many more.

Let us see again.

What is On-page optimization and Off Page Optimization?

On-page Optimization and off- page Optimization are a part of the Search Engine Optimization process to increase website traffic. There is a big difference between the two. Understanding these Optimization techniques is of vital importance if Search engine Optimization is the preferred tool for online promotion of business to create more website traffic.

You should consider two factors before choosing On-page Optimization or Off- page Optimization. Because, Search engines evaluate websites based on a number of on- page and off- page Optimization factors. The first is that you should be able to provide search engines what they need and also provide the required information to the users.

Off- page Optimization are the techniques employed by a website which are done “off the web page” to improve its search engine page rank and therefore increase its website traffic. There area number of off-page factors to be considered in off-page optimization.

Please find below Amousia has segregated the activities of the On-page and Off-page Optimization.

New report lists dangerous Web domains - from Yahoo News.

Thursday, June 5, 2008

Hello,

i would like to share this messages about "Dangerous Web Domains", i have read this News from Yahoo News. Just read this, this would be useful to our blog users.

New report lists dangerous Web domains

When surfing the Internet for safe websites, not all domains are equal.

Companies that assign addresses for websites appear to be cutting corners on security more when they assign names in certain domains than in others, according to a report by antivirus software vendor McAfee.

McAfee found the most dangerous domains to navigate to are ".hk" (Hong Kong), ".cn" (China) and ".info" (information). Of all ".hk" sites McAfee tested, it flagged 19.2% as dangerous or potentially dangerous to visitors; it flagged 11.8% of ".cn" sites and 11.7% of ".info" sites that way.

A little more than 5% of the sites under the ".com" domain—the world's most popular—were identified as dangerous. More spammers, malicious code writers and other cyber criminals can establish an online presence when domain name registry businesses cut requirements for registering a site in order to boost their profit and profile.

The report does not identify domain name registration companies McAfee believes are responsible for those lapses. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of companies are in the business of registering domain names; some are large and well-known, while others are small and less reputable, offering their services on the cheap and with flimsy or no background checks to lure in more customers.

The fact that Internet scam artists gravitate to domain name services with lower fees and fewer requirements isn't new.

What McAfee's "Mapping the Mal Web" report, now in its second year, tries to do is identify the domains that are populated with the highest concentration of risky sites. The servers for ".hk" and ".cn" websites don't have to be in China; website operators can register sites from anywhere to target different geographies. Other risky domains include ".ro" (Romania), with 6.8%, and ".ru" (Russia), with 6% of sites flagged as dangerous.

Shane Keats, research analyst for McAfee and lead author of the report, said the increase in dangerous sites registered under the ".hk" and ".cn" domains over last year's report was caused in part by better data collection on McAfee's part on those domains and by apparent security lapses in some registrar companies' processes for registering addresses.

"My advice about surfing behaviour is that if you're really desperate for cheap Prozac and the pharmacy ends in '.cn', don't do it. Just don't do it," Keats said. "Find another place to get your Prozac."

Many Internet frauds involve fake sites for pharmaceuticals.

The McAfee report is based on results from 9.9 million websites that were tested in 265 domains for serving malicious code, excessive pop-up ads or forms to fill out that actually are tools for harvesting e-mail addresses for sending spam.

Keats said domain name registrars that are strict about authenticating that website owners are operating a legitimate business see far fewer malicious websites using their services.

Where McAfee found some of the least-risky domain names: ".gov" (government use), with 0.05% flagged; ".jp" (Japan), with 0.1% flagged and ".au" (Australia), with 0.3% flagged.
